Faculty/Student Mentor Program: Effects on Academic Performance and Retention

A university faculty/student mentor program used the matched pairs design to evaluate its effectiveness and found that students with assigned mentors generally had higher GPAs, completed more units per semester, and dropped out less. The positive effects of having mentors were independent of the match of the gender and ethnicity of both mentors and mentees.
