Ilia Rushkin’s academic background lies in theoretical physics. After earning a Ph.D. from University of Chicago in 2007, Rushkin continued research in physics at the University of Cambridge.
Rushkin’s transition into educational research started after joining the knowledge engineering team at Reasoning Mind, a company that delivers online tools for math education. After getting heavily involved in curriculum development and the design of such tools, Rushkin became interested in machine learning methods.
Immediately before joining the VPAL Research team, Rushkin served as a consultant for Harvard Business Publishing, developing interactive tools – heavily mathematical – for Harvard Business School online courses.
