Syllabus Explorer Acceptable Use Policy

This states Harvard’s policy for acceptable use of the Harvard Syllabus Explorer (the “Site”) by instructors, staff, and students. By using the Site you are agreeing to comply with this Acceptable Use Policy.

Acceptable Use

Subject to the remainder of this policy:

  • If you are a student, you may use the Site solely for your personal educational and research purposes.
  • If you are an instructor or staff member, you may use the Site solely in connection with your teaching and administration of Harvard courses and for your Harvard research.

You may download a small number of syllabi from the Site (“Syllabi”) for your own use in accordance with the foregoing. You may not post, transfer, distribute, or otherwise share Syllabi, and may not provide others access to the Site through your credentials.  You may not make any commercial use of the Site or Syllabi.

If you use ideas, information or text from any of the Syllabi in your work, you should follow the same standards of attribution you would for any other scholarly works authored by Harvard faculty. If you wish to use a Syllabus in a way that goes beyond what is permitted under this Policy, you should contact the author or other rights holder.

You may not conduct any systematic or automated data collection activities, including scraping, data mining, data extraction, and data harvesting, on or in relation to the Site, and may not download or collect a substantial number of Syllabi by any means or for any purpose.

You may not use the Site or Syllabi in any way that causes, or may cause, damage to the Site or impairment of the availability or accessibility of the Site; or in any way that is unlawful, illegal, fraudulent or harmful; or in connection with any unlawful, illegal, fraudulent or harmful purpose or activity.

This Policy may be modified by Harvard from time to time.  In that event, the modified Policy will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date.
