VPAL Events

The Office of the Vice Provost for Advances in Learning (VPAL) hosts a number of large and small events throughout the year geared toward building connections across Harvard Schools and units and strengthening the resources of the Harvard community. A subset of its convening occurs under the auspices of the Harvard Initiative for Learning and Teaching (HILT) office.

Recurring events include:

  • HILT Affinity Group Events are open to those in Harvard community that wish to engage around shared teaching and learning interests and professional objectives. Topics include: Learning Design, Learning Spaces, Learning Data & Analytics, and Research-Informed Teaching and Learning.
  • HILT Annual Conference is designed to engage the Harvard Community in a university-level dialogue about teaching and learning innovation. The goals of the annual conference are to: (1) promote dialogue across Harvard’s campuses about educational innovation, including constructive discussion of provocative, thoughtful, and contrasting perspectives; (2) provide examples of experimental approaches and research studies that help faculty think through how to experiment in their own teaching with the practical insights; and (3) expand the network of Harvard scholars, instructors, senior leaders, academic professionals, and students who are improving educational practice.
  • Signature Events began in April 2020 as a way to offer virtual social opportunities for the Harvard community in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The remote events are held on a broad range of timely topics and are often co-sponsored by the Harvard Alumni Association.
